Mitchell E. Widom
- Chambers USA source
A seasoned trial attorney, Mitch has extensive expertise on class action and complex product liability, in addition to helping clients untangle and solve complex partnership disputes. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Attorneys, the pinnacle of achievement for trial lawyers, which is earned by peer nomination and support from opposing counsel and judges from past cases. Mitch is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, another prestigious fellowship limited to 500 active trial lawyers in the US. These accolades affirm Mitch's dedication to the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism, and collegiality.
As an experienced trial attorney routinely called upon to litigate high-profile cases, my approach is to do everything necessary to be fully prepared for trial- to be ready to pick the jury or try the case to the Judge, and the other side knows it. In class actions, I have had great success using discovery to prevent a class from being certified whether due to lack of commonality, adequate class representative or another fatal flaw.
I truly enjoy working with brilliant lawyers, even when they are opposite of me, because it ignites out-of-the-box thinking. Yes, sometimes it can be adversarial, but there is a level of civility and tremendous respect for even the most formidable foes. It is also gratifying to mentor young lawyers and help them learn how to try a case and making sure that our junior lawyers love their career here at Bilzin Sumberg.
Since 2004, my family, firm, friends and colleagues have helped raise close to $8 million for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation through The Iberia Bank Keymorada Invitational Tournament -- one of the most successful fishing fundraisers. I am especially proud of the incredible generosity of my fellow lawyers whose law firms (200+) participate each year. Together, we helped build the Crohn’s Center in South Florida, a treatment facility for hundreds, if not thousands, of patients including my daughter, brother and nephew, each of whom had to travel in the past for such specialized medical care.
