- Direct one-on-one training and mentoring from partners provided through the opportunity to be fully immersed as a member of a matter team
- Comprehensive formal training program facilitated through training committee
- Capped pro bono credit towards billable hour requirement
- 1900 Billable Hour Requirement
- Annual Academy for Professional Development program, which is an immersive training program that incorporates a holistic approach to practicing law in the community
- Bi-annual review of performance by the firm’s partnership admission committee to provide transparency in performance and provide feedback on further development

The Academy
We believe in preparing our associates for meaningful careers that extend beyond our successful Summer Associates Program. The Academy for Professional Development, Bilzin Sumberg's immersive training program for first-year associates, focuses on the development of critical professional and intrapersonal skills. The Academy concentrates on four key components:
- 1) relationship building
- 2) work-life balance
- 3) social competence
- 4) effective writing.
These factors are paramount to the development of legal professionals proficient in the law, who have a keen understanding of business practices and a strong network of relationships.
The Academy empowers our associates to achieve a larger perspective, enhancing our commitment to provide quality services to our clients while remaining at the forefront of an ever-changing marketplace.

At Bilzin Sumberg, we are dedicated to the professional growth of our summer associates and associates , offering them exposure to pivotal legal issues and mentorship from seasoned lawyers. Our comprehensive training programs grant insights into the daily roles, challenges, and opportunities.
Each associate benefits from personalized guidance through our mentorship program, where mentors not only advocate for you but also introduce you to our firm’s culture, practices, and clients. They play a crucial role in recruitment, performance reviews, and your early career development, ensuring your voice is heard within our hiring committee. Being paired with a mentor ensures that each associate receives the personalized attention and support they need. Your mentor acts as your advocate and serves as a guide to our firm’s practices, people, matters and clients. Mentors participate in recruitment, mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews, as well as early career growth, and advocate on your behalf at hiring committee meetings.
Summer Program
At Bilzin Sumberg, we invite ambitious 1L law students to apply for our Summer Associate Program, where you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside our accomplished attorneys and build meaningful connections. Our program offers exposure to diverse practice areas, and you work on real-world legal issues in a supportive and collaborative environment.
We welcome 1L applicants who have not yet accepted a 2L summer position to submit their cover letter, resume, and writing sample to jbuchsbaum@bilzin.com or bcobas@bilzin.com. Applications will be reviewed in early December, with interviews occurring through March. You may supplement your application with transcripts once they become available.
