Defense of Class Action Alleging Negligent Installation of Smart Meters

Representation of Honeywell International, Inc. and Honeywell Building Solutions SES Corporation in defense of a class action alleging negligent installation of millions of Smart Meters in Florida. Florida Power & Light (FP&L) implemented a plan to replace traditional analog meters with more advanced Smart Meters throughout the State of Florida and hired our client to install the Smart Meters. The lead plaintiffs contended that after installation of Smart Meters at their homes they experienced arcing, which caused damage to certain wiring and appliances. The Bilzin Sumberg team, by showing deficiencies in the Plaintiffs' Motion for Class Certification, convinced the court that the class was not legally sufficient to be certified, which led to the denial of Plaintiffs' Motion and the conclusion of the case.
