Government Relations & Land Development Partner Eileen Ball Mehta and Real Estate Partner John M. Kuhn were announced as winners in the Industrial category at an awards luncheon on May 16, 2014. The award is presented to attorneys, financial professionals and real estate brokers who made the biggest, most significant and complex deals in South Florida during the previous year.
Eileen Ball Mehta and John M. Kuhn were the winners in the Industrial category for their representation of Goodwill Industries of South Florida, Inc. in the acquisition, financing and development of Goodwill's new $15 million commercial healthcare laundry facility. The eco-friendly, ultra-modern laundry incorporates cutting-edge technologies designed to help combat the spread of pernicious infections in hospitals, and is poised to have a major impact on local healthcare systems.
Alan D. Axelrod, Bryan Hawks and Marty A. Schwartz were named finalists in the Finance/Real Estate category for their representation of Miami Design District Associates, LLC, a joint venture between developer Craig Robins and global real estate fund L Real Estate. The team assisted MDDA in refinancing more than 40 properties in the Miami Design District to secure two new loans totaling $301 million. This is the largest construction financing put in place since the real estate crash. The financing will help MDDA proceed with development of its retail project in the Miami Design District, one of the most anticipated projects in Miami today.
Brian L. Bilzin, John C. Sumberg, Jon Chassen, Arnold A. Brown and A. Vicky Garcia-Toledo were named finalists in the Mixed-Use category for their representation of Berkowitz Development Group in assisting the developer obtain a land lease and plans for the $400 million development of Skyrise Miami. The sleek, hairpin-shaped, 1,000 foot tower will be the tallest building in Miami, featuring observation decks, an amusement park and shopping and dining destinations.
Suzanne M. Amaducci, Bryan Hawks, Javier F. Aviñó, Albert E. Dotson, Jr. and Howard E. Nelson were named finalists in the Office/Real Estate category for their representation of 444 Brickell Partners, LLC, in the $104 million acquisition of 444 Brickell, the last large redevelopment tract located directly on Brickell Avenue in Miami's financial district. The property is slated for a $1 billion redevelopment as a 3-tower luxury condominium, with retail and marina components. Albert E. Dotson, Jr., Brian S. Adler and Jerry B. Proctor were named finalists in the Mixed-Use category for their representation of a Tennessee-based developer in several real estate transactions totaling $127 million, including the redevelopment, leasing and selling of land in Doral to the Miami Herald Company. The property serves as the Miami Herald's new headquarters.
