Shawn P. Wolf Becomes Chair of the Tax Section of The Florida Bar
MIAMI, FL- Bilzin Sumberg congratulates Shawn P. Wolf, Partner in Bilzin Sumberg’s Tax & Private Wealth Group, on becoming Chair of the Tax Section of The Florida Bar, effective July 1, 2023.
Shawn’s assumption as Chair caps years of active involvement with the Tax Section. He has previously served as Co-Director of the Long Range Planning Division, Co-Director of the Federal Tax Division, Co-Director of the Section Administration Division, as a Director-at-Large and as Chair of the Outbound Tax Committee. Shawn has also chaired The Florida Bar/Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants International Tax Conference and is a member of the FICPA International Tax Committee.
As Chair of the Tax Section, Shawn will lead and manage the Section’s wide-ranging functions, which include furthering the tax knowledge and practice of interested members in federal and state tax law; developing standards for ethical and competent practice of tax law by lawyers; developing and maintaining proper professional relationships between tax lawyers, non-lawyer groups and lawyer groups; and improving the operation of federal and state tax laws, rules and regulations, to accomplish legitimate legislative objectives and improve the administration of tax law.
Shawn is a seasoned tax and estate planning professional who serves a diverse roster of domestic and international clients. He counsels foreign and domestic high-net-worth individuals, families, and closely held companies in international and domestic tax, estate planning, pre-immigration and expatriation planning and strategies. He also advises clients with international tax issues how to address their U.S. tax compliance needs with a view toward penalty minimization.
His role as Chair of the Tax Section complements his extensive involvement in educational activities and thought leadership related to the practice of tax law. He is a frequent lecturer in the community and author of various articles focusing on international tax planning issues. He has served as an adjunct professor at Florida International University’s Masters of Accounting Program, has been a guest lecturer at the University of Miami School of Law Tax LLM program, and recently was a professor for Duke University’s International Tax Program in Mexico City (ITAM).
Shawn’s Florida Bar Board Certification in Tax Law represents one of the most distinguished markers of expertise among practitioners in the tax and estate planning field, and he is ranked in Chambers USA’s highly coveted Tax Florida section.
