Q & A
What aspect of your personal background is valuable for your practice?
Much of my practice focuses on serving the needs of clients from Latin America, and my Ecuadorean roots and Spanish fluency help me connect meaningfully with them. Understanding a client's background from a personal perspective is essential for successful tax planning and estate planning. Clients want to be sure they are getting their point across, from both a linguistic and cultural perspective. At the same, I want to ensure that they are able to understand planning concepts clearly, so that they can make informed decisions.
What do you find most rewarding about practicing in tax and estate planning?
There is a personal and collegial aspect to tax and estate planning that I enjoy very much, and which clients appreciate as well. Rather than being transactional in nature, successful planning requires the ability to understand the client’s personal values and long-term goals. Nurturing such long-term relationships is critical, especially because we are often planning across multiple generations for the future of their families.
