Q & A
How do you describe your practice?
My practice is the "circle of life" in a lot of ways. Many times my first interaction with an international client is when they are considering moving to the United States and we do pre-immigration planning. That is the start of the circle. Once in the U.S., there are new tax issues and the client has forged a bond with you from the start. Then when and if the client wants to migrate back to their country of origin or another country, I work on their exit strategies and expatriation tax planning. That's why I sum it up as the "circle of life" of a taxpayer from my perspective. I advise them through those various stages of their life.
How are you unique from other tax lawyers?
I distinguish myself from other lawyers by listening to clients. I see it all too often where lawyers are really just about how they can save you taxes without really trying to understand what the client wants and needs. A great tax idea you have is not always going to fit every client situation. You cannot find a solution to the client's problem if you first do not take the time to understand it.
