Back-to-School Drive Benefits Scott Lake Elementary
Miami, FL – Students of Scott Lake Elementary School in Miami Gardens started the new school year with a fresh set of school supplies provided by Bilzin Sumberg.
As part of the Bilzin Sumberg Cares community involvement initiative, attorneys and staff donated 20 backpacks loaded with school supplies such as No. 2 pencils, pens, Crayola markers and colored pencils, Crayola crayons, highlighters, safety scissors, wooden rulers, loose-leaf paper, notebooks, glue sticks, index cards, a pencil case and a pencil sharpener. The backpacks were distributed by the school to families in need.
"The aim of this Back-to-School Drive was to bring the Bilzin Sumberg community together to help the Scott Lake Elementary community -- students, parents and teachers -- as they return to school," said Alan Kazan, Capital Markets Real Estate Partner and member of Bilzin Sumberg Cares. "We wanted to equip students with some of the tools and materials they need for a successful year."
As part of a year-round focus on a local school, Bilzin Sumberg attorneys, staff and families previously gathered at Scott Lake Elementary on Saturday, Feb. 20 and assisted with painting murals, building new seating throughout the school, planting in the gardens, and revamping the basketball court. It marked the ninth Bilzin Sumberg Cares Project Day, an annual event in which the firm partners with a local organization or school for a day of philanthropic outreach.
The vision of Scott Lake Elementary, a Montessori magnet school with a speech and language special education program, is to utilize a high standard of excellence and work cooperatively to implement instructional strategies to increase student achievement and provide a safe and nurturing environment. Students are encouraged to strive for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
