John Sumberg Honored as Donor Next Door
Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is pleased to announce Managing Partner John C. Sumberg has been honored by United Way of Miami-Dade as a Donor Next Door. The 20th Annual Donor Next Door Luncheon presents an opportunity for more than 30 local nonprofits to recognize individuals, families, foundations, and corporations that donate time and money in South Florida. The luncheon, sponsored by PhilanthropyMiami, was held May 11 at Jungle Island.
Passionate about giving back to the community, John holds leadership positions in several civic and charitable organizations. He is particularly involved with United Way of Miami-Dade, where he has served as a board member and trustee since 2010. He is a member of the 2017 CEO Search Committee and has served as the co-chair of the Center for Excellence in Education Campaign. John also serves on the Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Endowment Fund Committee. John and his wife, Jo, became members of United Way's Million Dollar Roundtable in 2010.
John helped create the United Way Associate Legal Mingle, which in its seventh year now hosts 300 associates, in-house counsel, and judges. Under John's leadership, Bilzin Sumberg runs an annual United Way campaign that is widely supported by the Firm. The campaign is a weeklong celebration of United Way that encourages employees to contribute while featuring entertaining events such as a bake sale, ice cream social, and a cutthroat bingo competition.
In addition to his United Way work, John is Chair of the Advisory Board for the University of Miami School of Architecture, where he is also an Executive Committee member. John is a board member for the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and Chair of its audit committee, and he is Vice Chair of the Board of the Lotus House homeless women's shelter.
John's professional achievements are recognized both locally and nationally. He has been named in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2003 and has received the highest ranking for Real Estate by Chambers USA every year since the prestigious publication’s inaugural year in Florida. In 2016, John was named by Bisnow to the "Miami Power 50: The Most Influential Players in Commercial Real Estate."
