John C. Sumberg, Bilzin Sumberg Chairman, was recognized among Distinguished Leaders. For his work on the Richmond Heights historical designation, Stanley B. Price, Chair of the Land Development & Government Relations Practice Group, was recognized in the Social Impact category. Lori Lustrin, Litigation Partner, received an On the Rise recognition, while the firm's Litigation team was one of two groups honored in the "Litigation Department of the year" category.
Bilzin Sumberg’s Litigation Group is consistently at the forefront of the most high-end and complex litigation cases, and over the past year, the firm has participated in some of the most complex and sophisticated cases both locally and nationally as well as achieved several outstanding wins for clients. In fact, Bilzin Sumberg is consistently sought after for its vast expertise in large complex class action cases, including product labeling and false advertising, securities, antitrust, construction defect and product liability.
John served as the firm's Managing Partner for more than 20 years, and has been practicing in the area of commercial real estate for over 45 years. He routinely handles all types of complex real property transactions and has represented clients in a wide variety of matters involving commercial and residential properties, including regional malls, mixed use, entertainment and resort facilities, shopping centers, office buildings, condominiums, condominium/hotels, hotels and apartment complexes, community developments, golf courses, marinas, industrial properties, and large tracts of undeveloped land. In the corporate area, John provides counsel to a variety of closely held businesses including family businesses, representing clients in asset and stock purchases, corporate acquisitions, joint ventures, partnership formations, and general corporate matters.
Since his early career as an Assistant County Attorney for Miami-Dade County more than 50 years ago, Stanley has worked in the forefront of Florida land use law, and was the principal draftsman of important land use legislation. He is frequently consulted on the subjects of owners' and developers' rights and complex zoning and permitting issues. In addition to representing clients in land use, Stan works extensively with government and regulatory agencies, developers and landowners to examine, interpret and establish land use policy.
Lori handles the firm’s most high-profile class action and complex litigation cases and has developed notable practice niches on both sides of the “v.” On the plaintiff’s side, she represents victims of price-fixing cartels in antitrust opt-out litigation and leads Bilzin Sumberg’s involvement in the new wave of food price-fixing cases. On the defense side, Lori’s reputation for developing strong defense strategies has led her to represent some of the country’s largest food and beverage companies and consumer product organizations against false advertising and deceptive labeling class action claims.
The 2020 Professional Excellence Awards recognize standout achievements in 2019 by Florida legal professionals ranging from litigators and transaction attorneys to corporate general counsel.
