Al Dotson Inducted into Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Hall of Fame
Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is pleased to announce that Managing Partner Albert E. Dotson, Jr. has been inducted into the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) 2023 Alumni Hall of Fame. Al and six other distinguished graduates of Miami-Dade County’s public schools have been selected for induction based on their tireless engagement and impactful leadership in achieving educational advancement for local communities.
As Managing Partner of Bilzin Sumberg, Al oversees the firm's operations, leveraging innovative technology, and focusing on a multidisciplinary approach to push the envelope of optimizing client engagement and results. As a practitioner, Al is nationally recognized for his work on government contracts and public-private partnerships (P3). As head of Bilzin Sumberg’s P3 team, he has led the firm’s engagement on various multi-billion dollar public-private partnerships in Florida, including rail and transit facilities, airports, marinas, sports facilities, convention centers, healthcare/life sciences facilities, educational institutions, water and sewer facilities, parking structures, and various infrastructure developments.
In addition to his thriving legal practice, Al has led and been actively involved on the boards of numerous organizations fostering business growth and economic development in South Florida, local institutions of higher learning, and organizations that serve vulnerable community members. Al has served as an active member and as part of the leadership of 100 Black Men of America, an international mentoring organization whose goal is to educate and empower African-American children and teens. He is also a proud member of the Orange Bowl Committee for which he served as the second Black president of the organization, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Baptist Health South Florida boards, Boy Scouts of America, and Miami Dade Beacon Council.
Al’s extensive list of awards and accolades reflects both his professional accomplishments and his tireless service to the legal profession and wider community. He is named an Eminent Practitioner by leading legal directory Chambers USA, in addition to being recently named as one of Florida's Most Influential Business Leaders by Florida Trend's Florida 500 (2020), and as one of the Top 250 Power Leaders of South Florida by South Florida Business Journal (2022), among other recognitions.
Miami-Dade County Public School system is an A-rated school district and the fourth largest school district in the U.S. with nearly 400 schools and a diverse enrollment of more than 330,000 students from over 160 countries. Each year, since 2012, the M-DCPS Hall of Fame inducts a select group of outstanding individuals who exemplify the extraordinary talent cultivated in the Miami-Dade public school system. This year, Hall of Fame inductees will join just 46 other members.
