The team secured an unprecedented $267 million verdict on behalf of Bilzin Sumberg opt-out client Avnet Inc., one of the country’s top-five capacitor distributors. On May 22nd, the California federal jury unanimously found that Japanese capacitor manufacturer, Nippon Chemi-con, along with an American subsidiary, knowingly conspired to manipulate prices for aluminum and tantalum capacitors sold in the U.S. and purchased by Avnet. Avnet purchased billions of dollars of capacitors during the conspiracy period.
The trial win builds on Bilzin Sumberg’s long track record of impressive outcomes in high-stakes antitrust price-fixing actions over the last decade including the LCD flat panel, cathode ray tube (CRT), and DRAM computer chip cases. The Antitrust Team also represents 12 national restaurant chains and one of the nation’s largest food distribution companies in the broiler chicken antitrust litigation currently pending in the Northern District of Illinois.
