Ryan J. Coyle Joins Bilzin Sumberg’s Tax & Private Wealth Group
Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is pleased to announce that Ryan J. Coyle has joined the firm as a Partner in the firm’s Tax & Private Wealth Group, bringing with him a wealth of experience in international tax and estate planning. Ryan’s addition reflects the growth in demand for tax planning services as global wealth and international investment continues to flow into the United States, particularly South Florida, buttressing the firm’s reputation as a leader in complex cross-border income tax, transfer tax, and wealth planning matters.
"We are pleased to welcome Ryan as the latest addition to our leading tax and estate planning practice," said Bilzin Sumberg’s Tax & Private Wealth Practice Group Leader Jennifer Wioncek. “Ryan’s experience in various international settings serving global clients, particularly in Latin America, further bolsters the capabilities of our practice and ability to serve our sophisticated client base.”
Ryan’s practice focuses principally on advising US and non-US high-net-worth individuals, their families, and their closely held businesses on tax optimization of cross-border transactions. In this capacity, he focuses on international aspects of both income tax and transfer tax, advising clients on inbound investment structures and on outbound tax matters, such as US anti-deferral legislation (e.g., Subpart F and GILTI).
Ryan’s practice includes foreign tax credit planning, tax treaty planning, pre-immigration planning, expatriation planning, and qualified small business stock (“QSBS”) planning. He also regularly advises clients on compliance with the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (“FIRPTA”). In conjunction with such planning, he assists high-net-worth families in establishing complex trust structures and other vehicles to protect wealth, and efficiently transfer wealth from one generation to another.
Having been based in London and Hong Kong at various points in his career, Ryan has unique insight into the needs of global clients and speaks extensively on topics related to international taxation.
Outside of his practice, Ryan is involved with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the LGBTQI+ Law Committee of the International Bar Association. Ryan has been recognized by Latinvex as a Latin America Rising Legal Star and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
Ryan joins a practice that is widely regarded for its significant capabilities in advising domestic and international clients in cross-border private wealth and estate planning issues. The Tax & Private Wealth Group is active across a diverse range of industries and is particularly skilled in handling the tax implications of high-value inbound transactions. The practice is consistently recognized in leading publications such as Chambers USA, Chambers High Net Worth, Best Lawyers in America, Florida Trend’s “Legal Elite,” and Florida Super Lawyers.
