John Sumberg Appointed Chair of Advisory Board for UM Master's Program
Miami, FL – Bilzin Sumberg is pleased to announce Managing Partner John C. Sumberg has been named chair of the Master of Real Estate Development + Urbanism (MRED+U) Advisory Board at the University of Miami School of Architecture.
John, who was appointed in February, is also a member of the Executive Committee and has been an Advisory Board member since 2013, previously serving as vice chair. He is co-chair of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and the Nominating Committee.
John, a founding partner of Bilzin Sumberg, is one of the most influential real estate lawyers in South Florida, closing complex transactions worth billions of dollars. With more than 40 years of experience in commercial real estate law, John routinely handles all types of real estate transactions and represents clients in a wide variety of matters involving commercial and residential projects. In the recent past, John was involved in the $4 billion, 185-acre Solē Mia Miami development in North Miami; the $1 billion purchase, renovation, and refinance of 1 Hotel South Beach; and the $500 million purchase and development of Skyrise Miami, a 1,000-foot Bayfront tower.
John has received Chambers USA’s highest ranking in Real Estate since the publication’s inaugural year in Florida and has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for over a decade. In 2016, John was named by Bisnow to the Miami Power 50: The Most Influential Players in Commercial Real Estate.
The School of Architecture Advisory Board gives strategic planning advice to the Dean and the Director of the master's program. The board also promotes the program and the School of Architecture in order to recruit highly qualified students, and works to enhance the financial resources of the program while strengthening its ties to the business community. Advisory Board members also work directly with students as mentors and employers.
